Account Supervisor, Public Affairs

Our client's firm is a very fast-paced agency providing upward mobility for candidates seeking to position themselves for eventual senior agency roles. The firm maintains a dynamic business development function, to which the Account Supervisor may be asked to contribute while keeping a focus on managing accounts and support teams. Responsibilities:
Client Counsel: Routinely counsel clients, develop strategies, initiate ideas and recommend programs and/or projects that effectively address their public affairs goals.
Relationship Building: Forge and maintain relationships with California state, regional and local opinion leaders, elected officials, and media representatives to enhance client visibility, reputation and ability to achieve issues management objectives.
Client Management: Serve as a primary point of contact for multiple clients, ensuring quality control by delivering excellence in all aspects of client engagement and exceeding expectations, as well as building and maintaining trust.
Project Management: Supervise client project budgets, monthly projections, program management, and financial management, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery of public affairs program elements and projects. Ability to meet or exceed expectations in fairly frequent short turnaround timetables.
Team Leadership: Provide leadership and strategic guidance to Senior Account Executives (SAE), Account Executives (AE) and Assistant Account Executives (AAE), ensuring high quality in fast-paced written and visual content creation, while fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Business Development Support: Assist with new business development activities, including support on marketing initiatives and proactive identification of growth opportunities within existing public affairs client accounts.
Professional Development: Engage in, and foster, professional education and skills-building activities that benefit fellow team members in the interest of enhancing client service and ensuring a high degree of quality control.
Financial Oversight: Accurately budget and manage staff project time and resource allocation to clients, routinely reviewing client budgets and billings to stay on track.
Industry Awareness: Keep abreast of important developments in California public policy issues, client affairs and industries, demonstrating a deep understanding of emerging trends and challenges.
Company Representation: Represent the agency in various capacities, especially California public affairs-related third-party organization committee memberships, task force participation, and involvement in the agency's marketing and promotion activities.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Political Science/Government & Politics, Journalism or a related field. Advanced relevant degree candidates or holders a plus.
5-7 years of public affairs firm (or public affairs unit or division of a PR agency), state/local government communications or corporate public affairs, with a minimum of two to four years’ experience as a Senior Account Executive or equivalent.
Proven track record of successfully managing high visibility public affairs-based client accounts and supporting new business activities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strategic mindset and a results-driven approach. Superior writing and editing skills.
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and develop junior team members.
Multi-lingual, Spanish-speaking fluency desired.
Proficiency with PowerPoint/Excel/Outlook essential. Desktop publishing and/or basic design skills desired.
Ideally, maintain full-time presence in either public affairs firm office in Riverside or San Diego, California. However, superior candidates preferring a hybrid work experience will also be considered.
